The Oriental
The Lobby
When I visited
Tacloban City in 2012, my college friend and his family were the ones who
welcomed and brought me to Leyte Park Resort Hotel for a dinner. It was one of the top hotels
back then. On the other hand, The Oriental outshines its grandeur. The place
completely filled me with awe because of its extraordinary architectural
ingenuity. In fact, this accommodation was greatly affected by the typhoon Yolanda,
but was able to rise and continue its operation after several months.
The Rooms
If you’ll try to pay
attention on the details of the hotel’s furnishings, the design doesn’t
concentrate on single theme. It’s more of an integration of influences Asian
nations such as Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, and even our very own country.
The hotel is being depicted as how the designer utilized a contemporary style,
yet preserving Asian heritage seen on the materials displayed such as the
bamboos in the garden, seashells hanging on the ceiling, rattan as seats placed
by the pool, small golden statues welcoming you at the entrance, lanterns with
special patterns, some plants only found
in Asia, etc.
Get more enticed as
you plunge into the pool while the lights underneath occasionally changes its
colors. It’s even exciting every time you hear the waves from the coast, few feet
distant from the pool.
If you are looking for
a place, remote form the hustle and bustle of the city, the bar at the hotel is
perfect for you. Just grab a choice of your wine and enjoy the time as the
local musicians serenade you with their lovely music.
